Kerry Attwood, the company’s operations manager, explains how it was done Anatomy of an embroidery www.cottongraphics.co.uk Alexander Langlands Pearse of Cirrus Inns asked Cotton Graphics to create an embroidery of the distinctive jester logo of The Punchbowl, a pub and dining rooms in London’s Mayfair that dates from 1729. Previously owned by Guy Ritchie and Madonna, the pub was sold to Cirrus Inns in 2013. The embroidery is 86,619 stitches and took approximately 1.5 hours to run. It was a short run only due to the high stitch count. Cotton Graphics is used to large stitch-count embroidery as we embroider golf bags for professionals with their name and sponsor logos, which can sometimes be more than 100,000 stitches. We selected two different brands of thread to ensure we could colour match 100% with the original artwork: Madeira Classic and Gunold Sulky, both in rayon. The design was embroidered onto a Russell Hooded sweatshirt (575M) in black, which was a fantastic product to showcase this amazing embroidery piece. (The sample shown here is embroidered onto a T-shirt.) The design measures 20cm in width and 22cm in height. All our machines at Cotton Graphics are Barudan machines, which we believe are the best out there. This particular embroidery was produced on our Barudan BEKY-CII Series eight-head machine. We use Madeira Groz-Beckert 75/11 ballpoint needles, which are ideal for embroidery onto non- woven fabrics. We used cut paper on the back of the design to give the embroidery the stability required for a large piece.
