INDUSTRY NEWS www.images-magazine.com 12 images AUGUST 2019 View our latest online videos: www.images-magazine.com As the festival season is in full swing, we chose a Glastonbury T-shirt for this month’s column. It was decorated by KS Teamwear in Shepperton for 808 Create, which provides technical production for live events. 808 Create needed 30 T-shirts for the BBC lighting team at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, and Ross Collin, director of KS Teamwear, had just three days to complete the job. Ross used a Roland DG BN-20 VersaCamm for the arm prints, and a Graphtec CE6000-60 cutting plotter for the front [Ultra Cut by Xpres, in silver, sky blue opaque and white opaque] and back. “We had to make a few small changes to the design,” says Ross. “The triangle design on the front of the T-shirt had to be adapted so that it would work as a vinyl print. We printed on Gildan T-shirts and used three colour vinyls on the front, [Ultra Cut by Xpres, in silver, sky blue opaque and white opaque] which had to be placed one colour at a time.” www.ksteamwear.co.uk DECORATED PRODUCT OF THE MONTH Sabur introduces two new DGI textile printers Sabur Digital has added the new DGI Poseidon and DGI Apollon to its line- up of digital textile printers, following the machines’ launch at Itma in June. A mid-range 1.6m wide sublimation transfer printer, the Poseidon uses the same industrial Kyocera print heads found in the DGI HSFT III, which gives it up to a 118% speed increase over the DGI FT-1608, according to Sabur. The new printer also features a new sleep mode, which enables users to print jobs without being in attendance. An ‘SE’ model with an additional print head is also available and enables the installation of spot or fluorescent colours alongside CMYK inks, while maintaining production speeds of 120sqm/hr. A mini-jumbo roll unit with the ability to load 2,500 linear metres of transfer sublimation paper will be added later this year to offer users “even more flexibility”, Sabur reports. Available to ship from August, the Poseidon is aimed at the “mid-level production company that needs a high volume of capacity, but also needs the flexibility of multiple printers for different designs”, adds the company. The Apollon is a new direct-to- textile printer with 16 print heads and is aimed at the fashion and interior décor industries. At Itma, the machine was shown printing with reactive inks at production speeds of around 250sqm/hr. www.saburdigital.com The Apollon direct-to-textile printer from DGI was launched at Itma in June 2019 Dickies supports Band of Builders in fundraising challenge Dickies Workwear has provided branded clothing for those taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Band of Builders. The workwear manufacturer gave the national charity, which helps those in the construction industry in times of need, hoodies and T-shirts decorated with the Band of Builders logo. These were worn by the fundraising team which climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – the three tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – within 24 hours in June 2019. James Whitaker, marketing director at Dickies Workwear, commented: “We’re pleased to support such a worthwhile cause and this was a great opportunity to do so.” Martin O’Donnell, fundraising coordinator at Band of Builders, said: “We’re grateful to Dickies for providing the branded T-shirts and hoodies. Seeing our logo on our tops was a good reminder for everyone climbing those mountains that our efforts were for such an important cause.” www.dickiesworkwear.com www.bandofbuilders.org The 808 Create Glastonbury T-shirt: front print [left] and back print [right]
