The individual strands of hair that can be seen were digitised using a stitch type called ‘running stitch’ (or ‘walk stitch’, as it is also known), going back and forth over the same path twice to give a much bolder look. The embroidery was stitched using a Melco EMT16X, and the total stitch count was 110,602. Nine thread colours were used in total. The design took just over two hours to stitch out, with no thread breaks, and one bobbin change mid-run. Madeira Classic 40 colours were used for the embroidery, with Weblon backing from Madeira, and 75/11 needles. T his embroidery and DTG design was created as a “showroom piece” by and for David Sharp and garment decoration equipment supplier Amaya Sales UK, reports David Sharp’s director Dominic Bunce. Using a mix of print and embroidery produces a “truly unique piece”, he explains, and adds depth and value to the garment. David Sharp, a long-established company that is known for its embroidery digitising services, commissioned its in-house artist to produce the unique drawing of a lion. The Gosport-based company then digitised the art, a DTG print of the Serengeti was applied as a background and then the embroidery was stitched onto this image. The garment is a Gildan Softstyle Adult Ringspun T-Shirt (64000), which was selected for its soft feel and finish. The DTG print was carried out by Amaya Sales UK on a Kornit Avalanche HD6. The print took eight minutes to cure in a Chiossi e Cavazutti Dual 1200 tunnel dryer.
