www.images-magazine.com OCTOBER 2021 images 37 KB TIPS & TECHNIQUES www.vitordigitizing.net Brazilian digitiser and embroiderer Vitor Mendes demonstrates the versatility of machine embroidery with this elegant design featuring beads and sequins Anatomy of an embroidery The design was digitised in Wilcom EmbroideryStudio e4.5, resulting in an embroidery that is 25cm by 25cm. Two ZSK Sprint 6 embroidery machines were used for this design; one had a sequin device and the other had a bead device. The design has just 10,500 stitches and took 16 minutes to stitch on 100% polyester. The threads used were Burmilana 12 weight, colour 3783, and Polyneon 40 weight, colour 1944, both from Madeira, plus Madeira Ezee 80g Hard Cut Away backing in white. The secret to showing beads correctly in Wilcom software is to change the machine format to Dahao. The design used 272 gold 5mm sequins, which were from Mega, and 287 lavender beads, which were from Hiteps. To get excellent results with Burmilana, it’s necessary to work with a more open density. Here we did satin space 2.0 with sequin repeat set to 3. To make the ZSK machine bead device work properly, export the file in DST to the machine. I turn off automatic tie-in stitches for Burmilana as this helps avoid birds’ nests. Be careful and tighten the top tension when using Burmilana thread because loose tension can also easily cause birds’ nests on the machine. V itor Mendes of Vitor Digitizing is a highly experienced embroiderer and digitiser from Blumenau in Brazil who also teaches digitising and whose work was showcased on the ZSK stand at the Impressions Expo in the US last month. Here, he explains how he made sure this ballet design was on point by using two embroidery machines and paying close attention to details such as tension and density.
