www.images-magazine.com NOVEMBER 2021 images 73 BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Here’s an early Christmas present for you – a lesson in how to apply raw-edge appliqué from Dominic Bunce of digitiser David Sharp, plus a free festive design download, so you can show off your new skills. C hristmas is coming and it’s time once again to make festive jumpers for customers, staff, family and friends. This year, give raw-edge appliqué a whirl, and then brand it with company details, or personalise it with an individual’s name. The beauty of raw-edge appliqué is that its unique finish isn’t designed to be perfect, which makes application easier, and each wash it undergoes adds to the effect as the edge frays and looks more rugged. You can download this free design from www.davidsharp.co.uk/freebies . This comes without the Images text on the design, ready for you to personalise – or reach out to the David Sharp team, who will be happy to help. Instructions for application 1. Frame up the garment as normal, and load the file. 2. Place the material you wish to use for the appliqué within the area of the embroidery required – fleece was used here, producing a very nice raw edge 3. Start the machine – a run stitch line will then stitch around, pinning the material in place, followed by an automatic stop on the machine. 4. Remove the frame from the machine and cut roughly around the outside of the run stitch – it needn’t be perfect as it will give a nice fluffy finish once complete! 5. Place back on the machine, and press start – the machine will then stitch a triple run stitch to further hold the material down, and continue embroidering the rest of the design. 6. Once finished, remove from machine, take off the backing and have a very merry Christmas! This technique can be used on many different designs – animals for cushion covers work particularly well. The design shown here measures 171mm by 240mm and has a stitch count of 31,819. It includes five colours and 14 trims, the run time is around 35 minutes, and it was applied to a Graduate Heavyweight Hoodie from Just Hoods by AWDis. www.davidsharp.co.uk Stocking up on new skills Each wash exaggerates the frayed edge and enhances the look
