Printed by Memory Screen Print Studio in Bath, the black and white artwork (given the band’s name, the colour choice was inevitable) was created by Kim from Melf Illustration, an illustrator the Bristol-based band had been following for a while on Instagram, reveals Craig Stock, co-owner of the print shop. “She is a French artist who uses a micro ink pen for all her designs, which take between 30 and 100 hours! The design was called ‘Through The Darkness’ which, given how the last few years have been a challenge to all of us, really struck a chord,” he says. “This was one print Steve [Faherty, co-owner] and I really enjoyed printing, right from the get go; we really liked the artwork,” says Craig. “We separated the artwork as a three-colour print. This way the print worked on black and white garments as a two-colour print – you miss the white colour on the white garments and the black on the black garments. Separating it this way also means it will also work as a three- colour print on coloured garments.” The design was printed on a Hopkins BWM six-colour manual carousel using Sericol ink on Classic Jersey T-Shirts (N03) from Continental Clothing. The T-shirt make was specified by the client, reports Craig, adding, “We find printing on Continental a joy.” The response to the T-shirt has been great, he says. “The band sold over half the T-shirts in the first two gigs so it looks like we are going to have to do another run sooner than we expected. The new service offers a low minimum order quantity of five transfers, plus the option of ordering a single pre- production DTF sample. The transfers are printed with eco-friendly water- based inks and are said to be vibrant, durable and stretchy – “with rebound and no cracking” – as well as offering “great washability, breathability and a soft handle”. They can be applied to most fabrics using a commercial heat press with a cold peel (15 seconds at 135°C). Beyond Colour Transfers is promising speedy delivery of all DTF transfers – four days between receipt of order and delivery – and “the lowest price points in the industry”. There is a choice of Essential, Poly Blocker, Shell Blocker and Promo DTF Heat Transfer products.
