Andrea Barlow, decoration co-ordinator at William Turner, talks about her 15 seconds of movie fame, running a pub and riding a 1947 Harley Davidson 1200 motorcycle UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL How long have you been working in the industry? I’ve been in the business for about 30 years, with a couple of years’ break running The Ship Inn pub in Haydock. What’s your most overused word or phrase? It depends on the situation — if I’m driving home, there would be multiple words or phrases unsuitable to print. I do surprise many people with the huge amount of ways you can say the word ‘seriously’. Which tune can’t you get out of your head? ‘Mahna Mahna’ by The Muppets. Who’s singing it now? What’s your favourite sports team? Wigan Athletic. Tomato ketchup or brown sauce? Definitely brown sauce all the way. What’s your party trick? I’m an expert at hedge-surfing, and not being able to find my tent at the end of a night! What fact about you surprises people? The fact that I ride a 1947 Harley Davidson 1200 motorcycle. I recently had my 15 seconds of fame in a new film, Andrea Barlow ‘The Pebble and The Boy’, as my hubby used to own a scooter shop restoring old Lambrettas – Chris Green, the film’s producer, was one of his customers and wanted bikers for the film. What’s your greatest ambition? I’ve done most things on my bucket list: parachute jumps, dancing on stage with Edwin Starr, Buster Blood Vessel and the Sex Pissed Dolls. I’ve also stage-dived at a Blur concert, and been in the middle of many a mosh pit at music festivals. I think a trip to America and cruising down Route 66 is my next goal. What’s your hidden talent? I am very good at burning pizza. If you were to do another job, what would it be? It would have to be the pub trade — I’d have a little pub in the countryside away from towns and villages, so we could have campers and host music weekends. I loved running The Ship Inn, and they still call me ‘Mrs Ship’ when I pop in. If you could be anywhere on Earth right now, where would you be? I would like to be in Mojacar (in Spain), as my Dad lives there and I’ve not seen him for a few years due to this pandemic. Which gadget couldn’t you live without? A corkscrew and a bottle opener. If you could ask one person (living or dead) one question, what would you ask? I’ve often wondered about Michael Jackson’s missing glove, but I think I’ll go for this: ‘Tom Hardy, will you marry me?’ My hubby won’t be happy.
