I tend to use a mixture of Separation Studio and Photoshop. In this case, I did the basic separation in Separation Studio, then opened it in Photoshop for fine-tuning. I also sharpened the whites at the end before sending to the RIP. The emulsion used was MagnaPrint Screen Emulsion. Two types of screens were used: those with a 120T mesh were exposed for six to eight seconds depending on the halftone detail, and the 62T screen was exposed for 10 seconds. The screens were printed on the Freestyler from Exile Technologies. The halftone dots were printed at 81lpi, and were all at 22.5 degrees. The print was cured at 160°C for three minutes in an Adelco Pro-Cure conveyor dryer. The print order, including the mesh used, was: underbase 120T – flash – white 62T – flash – red 120T – yellow 120T – green 120T – grey 120T. It was printed on an MHM X-Type Plus 10/8 press. The squeegees were all 65 shore. The design was printed on a black Creator T-shirt from Stanley/Stella The underbase was MagnaPrint Killer Base from MagnaColours and the plastisols used for the colours were from Wilflex Epic Color System MX. T his month’s design was created by Alex Greig, managing director of Supreme Screen in Bridgend, Wales, for aMoment Apparel, a clothing brand he worked on during Covid-enforced downtime. “I did a soft-launch last year to gauge response and we had some great feedback. The idea was to create full-colour, super-detailed, originally drawn images that are all screen printed. Things are a bit more back to normal now with Supreme, and running a busy shop takes a lot of focus, so it has ended up on the backburner again – but I have loads of designs here that I have sampled and hope to work on it some more in the future.” 1992-2022 Images magazine is the first place we go when we want to know exactly what is going on in the industry! We have featured in the magazine a number of times now and the exposure has been invaluable for us. The Digital Helpdesk is a must-read for us along with the Up Close And Personal feature, where it is always useful to get to know people in the market. – Nic Simons, Shirt Monkey
