INDUSTRY NEWS www.images-magazine.com 10 images FEBRUARY 2022 Gildan invests in securing yarn supply chain Gildan Activewear has acquired a yarn supplier to bolster integrated supply chains in its production of garments. Through one of its wholly-owned subsidiaries, it has bought 100% of the equity interests of Phoenix Sanford, the parent company of Frontier Yarns, for approximately £127 million (US$168 million) in cash. Founded in 1996, Frontier is a leading producer of 100% cotton, polyester and cotton blend yarns, primarily manufactured on open-end and vortex (MVS) spinning technology. Gildan said the deal would allow it to build on its “global vertically integrated supply chain” through further internalising yarn production. It will also support future yarn availability for Gildan’s planned expansion of textile capacity in Central America and the Caribbean. imagesmag.uk/gildan-yarn 1992-2022 “What’s fascinating about Images is the scope, range and diversity of content. The Spotlight section showcases a huge range of innovation and creativity within the industry and is our go-to section. Images feels like the meeting place for every garment decorator where you can keep up to date with what is happening in our industry, learn from others, and share your own experience and knowledge to help others.” – Mark Robson, Wizzprint Bludog These fantastic workwear garments and accessories were decorated by Bludog in Coventry for PRB Poultry. imagesmag.uk/Bludog-PRB-Poultry Tajima Europe partners Coloreel on thread colouring Coloreel has formed a new partnership with embroidery machine specialist Tajima Europe to make its instant thread-colouring technology available to more garment decorators. It will see the two companies collaborate on projects that will find ways to integrate the technology with Tajima’s industrial embroidery machines for customers across Europe. The partnership is at an early stage, but Tajima Europe’s general manager, Franck Raynal, said Tajima was already seeing customers express an interest in Coloreel’s offering. “Coloreel technology is bringing new blood into our industry. The challenge is finding the best solution to add it to existing machines.” Franck, who started off in the decoration industry as a digitiser and working on embroidery software development, said that he was intrigued by the unexplored effects and colour effects that could make complicated designs possible. “Coloreel brings a stronger value to our offering. The technology widens the possibilities of personalisation of products, bringing so many colours to the table. The possibilities are unlimited,” he explained. imagesmag.uk/tajima-coloreel Coloreel instant thread-colouring technology set up with a Tajima embroidery machine Rows of yarn slivers being fed into spinning rotors at one of Gildan’s yarn-spinning facilities in the US Check out our full-length Decorator Reports: www.images-magazine.com
