The Montreal-based group reported it generated sales of £589 million (US$802 million) over the quarter from July to 3 October, up 33% over the same period in 2020 and 8% above the third quarter of 2019. With sales back above pre- pandemic levels and stronger margins, the global group also saw earnings for the quarter reach record levels. The overall sales increase was driven primarily by higher unit sales of activewear and underwear, a favourable product mix, and lower promotional spending and other expenses on blank garments. imagesmag.uk/gildan-record INDUSTRY NEWS Snuggle invests in new Kornit Atlas Max printers DTG specialist Snuggle in Peterborough has invested in two Kornit Atlas Max machines to support its continuing plans for growth. Adding to the company’s existing set-up of Kornit equipment, it is one of the first UK printers to receive the industrial-scale direct-to-garment system that was launched this year. The Atlas Max featuring XDi delivers 3D printing capabilities for high- density graphic decoration that can simulate embroidery, vinyl and heat transfer in a single process. Shabbir Maimoon, who founded Snuggle 10 years ago with his cousin Akil Thatia, said: “With the new Atlas Max technology, you see a marked improvement in the quality of prints with better opacity of white ink on dark colours than before. “The XDi technology is pushing into new boundaries of DTG with raised prints and threadless embroidery, which enables our customers and brands increased diversity in a crowded market.” imagesmag.uk/snuggle-max View our latest videos: vimeo.com/imagesmaguk S & F Printwear And Promotion This intricate design was printed and embroidered by S & F Printwear And Promotion in Chatham for the outdoor adventure app Quest. imagesmag.uk/SF-Printwear-Quest Glenn J Chamandy, president and CEO of Gildan [L-R] Snuggle directors Shabbir Maimoon and Akil Thatia with the new Kornit Atlas Max A trend for comfort and casual in workwear: Premier Workwear’s Jeans Stitch Denim Shirts Britons seek more ‘comfort’ in workwear The continuing trend for working from home is contributing to Britons opting for ‘comfort’ when it comes to workwear, according to research by fashion data specialist True Fit. It points to uplifts in sales of casualwear for work on the back of hybrid working, where people work from home some days of the week despite the current relaxation of Covid restrictions. The Fashion Genome data, based on online clothes shopping, reveals that sales of casual menswear and womenswear for work is up 180% and 140% respectively in September. Even though online clothes shopping soared last year due to lockdown, online sales remain six per cent higher in 2021 compared to 2020, indicating a sustained demand for ecommerce and a long-term shift in the behaviour of increasingly digitally-first consumers. imagesmag.uk/truefit-workwear
