I think the bestseller will be the 280gsm Polarthermic Fleece (R903X) as this is the best fleece I have ever seen – especially at this price point. How does the price of Genuine Recycled styles compare with similar non-recycled Result styles? This is the reason why we are now offering recycled materials: for example, the R114X is one of the bestselling microfleeces in our industry, offering great value for money – and the R907X recycled version is the same price. The fabric weight is 35gsm less in the R907X but, because we have been able to develop these with such a dense pile, the wear feels the same. It is a great achievement that Result can offer recycled garments and make the claim that they are affordable. Are you planning any further expansion of the Genuine Recycled range? Is it possible that one day all Result garments could use recycled fabrics? We will continue introducing recycled products in our range – where we can offer genuine and affordable products, this will be the future. There may be some products that can only be part-recycled or sustainable: for example, the new recycled knitted hat range can only be 50% recycled because these yarns do not fully recover from stretching, so we have to maintain 50% normal yarns in the mix. However, each hat still uses the equivalent of one one-litre plastic bottle and prevents it from going into landfill. We sell over 2.5 million knitted hats a year so to change these all to recycled would help us hit our target next year to use the equivalent of 10 million bottles. Our initial stocks have already used the equivalent of 3.5 million bottles, so we are already making a difference. Are you ‘greening’ other parts of the Result business? Waste heat generated during dyeing is re-circulated and all dyeing uses recycled water. The Result main warehouse and distribution centre is 75% powered by solar energy. To minimise flexible packaging litter on the environment, we use recycled board in our cartons, recycled wooden pallets for shipping and wrap our pallets in BioZ oxo-biodegradable plastic: an opaque wrap whose treatment triggers degradation after six to 12 months and breaks down fully, reverting to just carbon and oxygen. No trace is left to pollute the environment; it does not form micro-beads and can be collected and/or recycled with other plastics without causing any contamination. All the recycled products are packed in biodegradable, tape-free envelope bags, and all their cartons are made from recycled cardboard. How can our readers recycle their Genuine Recycled garments? To close the recycled loop, those Result garments that are suitable for end-of life recycling can be sent to your local textile recycling system for conversion into products that are made by other industries, such as the house décor or the automotive industries.
