The glow-in-the-dark ink was cured at 320°F for three minutes through an M&R Sprint 3000 conveyor dryer. Matsui Neonlight, a glow-in-the-dark powder pigment, was mixed with Matsui discharge ink for the splatter effect. A paint brush was used to splatter the ink. The HD and gloss were then cured at 325°F for 1 1/2 minutes on the Sprint 3000. The T-shirt was the Legend IND5000C Men’s Premium Heavyweight Cross-Grain Crew from Independent Trading Company, and around 100 tees were printed for staff. A Kiwo XTS computer-to-screen machine was used for the HD print. The team used Aquasol HD emulsion from Murakami on the 90 mesh – it was coated 400 microns thick and then exposed for 90 seconds with a metal halogen bulb. After layering the HD ink, a clear gloss, also from Image Technology, was applied on top to give it a glossy finish. The sequence was HD, flash, HD, flash, gel. The print was produced on an M&R Stryker automatic press. The squeegee durometer was 65/90/65. High Density Base from Image Technology was used for the HD print. When Chicago-based Culture Studio decided to create a new uniform for its staff members, its creative team wanted to produce something that stood out from the crowd, says creative manager Tyler Barnes. The result is a glow-in-the-dark, all-over splatter design combined with a stacked high-density (HD) screen print that definitely fulfils the brief. “Our shop is usually tasked with 12-14 colour, photorealistic designs that take a lot of technical skill, and we execute them really well,” explains Tyler. “For this project, we challenged ourselves to create a simple design that would still create the shock and awe factor of a 14 colour.” 1992-2022 I have always enjoyed the Anatomy feature. It’s nice to see how people create their own techniques to achieve prints. I often find myself picking up a few tricks and tips from the feature and testing them out. For me it’s all about learning and constantly trying to improve. After our feature in Images the DMs opened up to conversations with other print shops who we now chat to on a regular basis. The magazine as a whole is bringing the community together. – Darren Sedge, Squeezed Orange
