In order to achieve perfect printing results, the company says it is important to find the right pretreatment settings. “Pretreatment is the most important step in DTG, but can be a cause of many problems,“ it explains. “Most stains, poor quality prints and wash issues can be attributed to difficulties with pretreating.“ For this reason, Schulze recommends users test their pretreat settings. It adds: “Even when they have settings to follow, producers should perform tests to match the process with their shop’s unique environment.“ One of the most important steps is to set the pretreatment quantity, therefore weighing scales are needed. The producer must weigh the textile before and after spraying, note the difference in grams and compare it with the manufacturer‘s settings. Schulze recommends doing more than one test, and suggests testing as many different materials as possible to find the best setting for each. For the next step, the producer must dry and press the shirt as usual and look for flat fibres, stains, crystals and discolouring. “Any of these might indicate issues with the textile or the settings,“ Schulze explains. “Print a test image with the default printer settings and your optimised print settings. Look at the print result after printing and also after fixing.“ From this you can determine how much pre-treatment and which print settings best suits each fabric. As a final test, wash the T-shirt. If the final result looks and feels good, then you‘ve found the right setting for that textile. www.pretreatmaker.com The P reTreatMaker from Schulze Amaya Sales UK: Kornit Atlas and Polyprint TexJet Amaya Sales UK offers the full range of Kornit direct- to-garment printers and roll-to-roll printers.
